 Sewa Women’s Championship 2023

SEWA International USA’s Atlanta Chapter  kicked off its inaugural sports event with cricket, and Pickleball competitions . Cricket is one of the most played and popular sports in Bharat. While women's cricket may not be the most popular sport in the world, Atlanta boasts an incredible number of female cricketers.

The Sewa Women’s Cricket event, held on September 23rd at Fowler Park, Cumming, GA, began later than planned due to rain. Sewa International volunteers diligently prepared the ground, ensuring it was safe for the players.

The event commenced with an invocation to Bhagwan Ganesh Ji’s  and the traditional lighting of the lamps.

The cricket tournament received an overwhelming response and was efficiently conducted by match referees Manoj Sharma and Vijay Vaghela, along with other dedicated volunteers. Six teams participated in the contest: Wonder Women, Desi Smashers, Firebirds, Girl Rangers, Magic Makers, and Wildbrooke Warriors. The competition was intense, with the Wonder Women team clinching the winner's trophy.

The tournament's success can be attributed to the efforts of SWC(Sewa women’s cricket) lead Neetu Chauhan, SWC manager Pallavi Panthri, and STC  Vani Gaddam and other Volunteers.

Additionally, a pickleball sporting event took place on September 16th at Sharon Park, Cumming, GA. The event commenced with prayers to Lord Ganesha and the traditional lighting of the lamps. The finals, held on October 7th, were undeniably the most challenging championship yet, with the finalists delivering a hard-fought victory.

This event marked the first introduction of pickleball in SEWA’s sports events, organized by the sports team led by Neetu Chauhan, Vani Gaddam, and Pallavi Panthri, and coordinated by Ragupathy Annamalai, Sushma Amirineni, and Jigisha Shah.

In the doubles category, Hema and Jyoti[ emerged as the pickleball winners, with Hema also securing victory in the singles finals.

It is very commendable that Sewa AmeriCorp Project will be the beneficiary of Sports Event Funds.

Special thanks go to Vijai Ganapa, Sewa Sports coordinator, for guiding the team, Prakash Srivastava for technical and marketing assistance, Shobhit Panthari, Raghav Tavva, and Praveen Lambard for their outstanding photography and videography. SEWA extends its gratitude to the sponsors SplashBi and Atlanta Desi Events, as well as SlayRX for providing sports drinks during the cricket tournament.
