Mata ki Chowki performed with religious fervor
The Atlanta Chapter of Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation of USA and the
Atlanta Chowki Group reverently performed “Mata Ki Chowki” at
Global Mall on July 12th, 2009.
Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation holding “Mata Ki Chowki” was only too
appropriate as Ekal believes that the venereable "Mata"
symbolizes the Trinity - Durga, the Destroyer of Evil Saraswati,
the Goddess of Learning and Lakshmi, the Goddess of Wealth. This
propitiation of the "Mother" is truly reflective of Ekal's
philosophy of alleviating all social ills and bringing
prosperity through education to the rural and remote pockets in
India.
The non-profit, charitable trust is spearheading a people's
movement for providing education and empowerment to the rural
masses in India. The trust identifies, initiates, supports, and
manages non-formal one-teacher schools across the length and
breadth of India with a meager donation of a dollar-a-day! As of
July 2009 there are 26,855 Ekal schools where 771,315
under-privileged students receive basic education, health-care,
and vocational training – aimed at transforming and bringing
prosperity to rural India. With Ekal, it is an article of faith
- that where the Goddess of Learning finds an abode, the
darkness of ignorance will soon disappear and prosperity will
set in!
Inder Bery and Surinder Bahl painstakingly organized the Chowki.
After Pandit Joshiji, propitiated the Mother
Goddess, Kiran
Chibber, Kalpana Bery, Vandana Bhandari, Nishi Sharma, Navin
Tyagi, Seema, Tilak, Harjeet, Shama and others rendered
melodious Mata bhaints and bhajans. An unexpected treat to the
ears were the two bhajans sung in a mesmerizing voice by Nayan
Pancholi who was briefly visiting Atlanta from Ahmedabad, India.
Mahaprasad was prepared and served with love and care by devout
Ekal volunteers. Everything was so delicious that someone aptly
remarked that "Mother Goddess" herself has stirred the ladles in
each pot!
Ekal raised eleven schools at the Chowki. People were so
impressed with Ekal's noble work that they are looking forward
to the next Ekal event called "Tapasya" on September 12th at
Paces Academy, Buckhead, GA. The Narasimha Academy of Arts is
choreographing a thematic dance presentation woven around
Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva in their abode at Mount Kailash
and devotees are determined not to miss the show.
