Sewa Atlanta Chapter hosts MBTI Workshop
The Triumph of Family Service in Atlanta by Sewa International
-By Sewa Atlanta Media Team
Sewa International USA conducted a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)
workshop for couples and families with children in Atlanta on
December 5, 2015 at IACA’s Sanatan Mandir, Smyrna, Georgia. This
event was offered free as a service to the community. The MBTI
workshop is the first in a series of workshops planned under the
family services project of Sewa International in Atlanta and
other cities in the US. Sewa plans to do similar workshops for
community to raise awareness about issues very important but
quite often kept aside by us due to lack of time and available
guidance.
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, which was designed to implement
the theories of C. G. Jung, is an easy-to-use tool for
identifying our natural preferences and strengths. Through short
questions and word-pair combinations, the MBTI identifies
differing styles of perception, judgment, energy direction, and
lifestyle. There are no right or wrong “types”; the Indicator
simply identifies different kinds of people who like different
things, are good at different things, and who sometimes may find
it difficult to understand one another because of these
differences.

Arun Kankani, who is a certified MBTI instructor and currently
serves as Executive Vice President of Sewa International, USA,
conducted the workshop. The 6-hour-long workshop, which is
interactive with a lot of fun and laughter, helps participants
know their MBTI score, identify their personal preferences and
how these preferences are similar and different from others, and
examine how these personality similarities and differences
facilitate and block communication in their relationships. The
workshop also helps develop and sharpen interpersonal skills
that heighten personal effectiveness and helps participants
understand the basic differences between people, allowing them
to work together while remaining comfortable with themselves.
Overall, this is a very useful tool for self-development and
self-understanding. More than 30 participants, including couples
and families with children, attended the workshop.
The mission of the “Family Services” project of Sewa—a 501(c)(3)
Hindu faith-based nonprofit charity, promoting selfless service
through its chapters in cities and towns across the United
States—is to create awareness about its various humanitarian
efforts to help families in critical situations by connecting
them with the right information and resources and providing a
helping hand through a network of volunteers who are certified
professionals in various fields. Sewa International in the USA
has 38 chapters in 20 metros and 22 states.
Sewa (pronounced 'say wah') is a word in the Sanskrit language
that translates to service above self, or memorably, Selfless
Efforts for Welfare of All. Sewa International started in 2003
in the USA and was inspired by the international Sewa movement
that began in India in 1989. Internationally, the Sewa movement
is active in 17 countries.
