NAVRATRI CELEBRATION
by RAJSHREE ARCOT
It was raining Garbha ( earthen pots with holes & fire ambers in
them) & Dhandiya (sticks which collide on the beat
of music) at Bay Springs Middle School in Villa Rica, Georgia,
three cheer s to the organizers of WGIA for consistently
promoting the rich cultural and religious heritage of Hindu
festivities since its inception in 2003.
A fiesta atmosphere has enthralled the Indian community of West
Georgia & East Alabama for three days straight on September 26;
27 & 28th as hundreds of men, women and children danced to
amazing garbha tunes. Interestingly, getting tired was surely
not on the walls till late in the midnight as dancing in circles
to the rhythm gave them more energy inputs. Dancers have
showcased their innate talents and the professionalism with
ease; their costumes were eye-catching and very colorful. This
year’s celebrations have fostered the harmony and a feeling of
brotherhood among the young and old.
The true colors to the entire show was provided by Atlanta
Events & Music entertainment group, Duluth, GA with
their rocking instrumental & vocal music from the top notch
performers coming from different parts of United States.
The center of the attraction was the Godess Durga Devi, which
was very well decorated around a mountain terrain with smoke
emerging out from the back drop. The evening Aarati was symbolic
on all the three evenings was a hall mark of true devotion to
the presiding deity.
Freshly cooked tasty dinner was provided on all the three
evenings, additionally, cold faluda and soda’s kept the dhandiya
raas on the move. President of WGIA, Mr. Mitesh Patel is highly
benevolent to all the board members and every volunteer who has
made this event a grand success.
