Rhea ‘s Painting
Award
By Mahadev Desai

Rhea D'Souza is a first grader in Mountain Park
Elementary School in Roswell. She was born in Atlanta to
parents orginally from Mumbai. Her older brother Roshan
is a sophomore in Roswell High. Rhea loves to dance and
is learning Bharat Natyam at Kruti Dance Academy. She is
also learning Ballet/Tap dance at Roswell Recreation
since last four years. Her hobbies include drawing and
painting; she is a student at
Global Art in
Global Mall.
Rhea has an intriguing personality. With a child, she is
gentle and caring. With an adult or teacher, she is
respectful and reserved. With a stranger, she is shy and
reticent. With a known person, she is gregarious and
funny. She is very playful and at times irritating with
her brother and yet fiercely loyal to him when he gets
into trouble. She is mature beyond her years but still a
child, and yet this doesn't seem to be a contradiction.
At seven, her world revolves around her parents,
brother, teachers, dance and art, and she feels secure
in it. Yet she wants to push her boundaries outward a
little at a time.
She understands her place in the world.
Rhea recently won third place in the "Imagine Roswell
2030" contest. For grades 1-4, participants had to
submit a color drawing of how they imagined Roswell city
in the year 2030, i.e. how would Roswell's people,
homes, businesses and parks look in 2030. Rhea's color
poster won third place. In the poster, Rhea used the
color blending techniques learnt at Global Art. She
displays a keen sense for choosing harmonious colors.
Kudos to young Rhea, who with loving parents, diligently
nurturing her burgeoning talents, is sure to scale great
heights when she grows up. |
