Festival Of Chariots (Ratha Yatra)
Sunday, 4th June
Ratha Yatra literally means Chariot Festival. Ratha Yatra originated 5,000
years ago in India, on the East Coast state of Orrisa, in a city called
Jagannatha Puri. Usually the deities of Lord Jagannath, Sri Balarama and
Subhadra devi are worshipped within the temple, but on the day of the Rath
Yatra festival they are taken through the streets so that everyone can have
the fortune of seeing them. This event is celebrated by devotees all over
the world with great pomp and enthusiasm.
ISKCON Of Atlanta is reputed to host this festival for the last 40 years.
This year the most sacred event will be celebrated on Sunday 4th June with
an all day program starting at 11:00AM.
