The Gandhi Foundation of USA
will celebrate the 142nd birth anniversary of
GANDHIJI with a series of events during the month of
October, including a screening of Sir Attenborough’s
award-winning film GANDHI
followed by a Reception
with Refreshments at the Atlanta Convention &
Visitors Bureau Center Theater at Underground Atlanta on
Saturday, October 8.
Released in 1982, Gandhi
is a multiple-Oscar winning film that provides an engrossing
and reverential look at the life of Mohandas K. Gandhi as he
undergoes a transformation from an insignificant lawyer in
late 19th century South Africa into a world-inspiring leader
just a few decades later. Gandhi’s peaceful yet powerful
fight for a nonviolent existence would eventually set the
nation of India free from British colonization in 1947, and
Gandhi compellingly captures the moments in one man’s
life that would make this freedom possible.
Following its release,
Gandhi won 8 Academy Awards, including Best Picture,
Best Director (Lord Richard Attenborough) and Best Actor
(Sir Ben Kingsley). Underground Atlanta and the Gandhi
Foundation of USA are pleased to present this film to the
public, free of charge, to respectfully acknowledge the 142nd
birth anniversary of GANDHIJI.
