Swami Agnivesh, President of the Sarvadeshik Sabha (World Council) of Arya Samaj, is a well-known spiritual leader and social activist from India, best known for his work amongst bonded labor in India for the last quarter century where he has obtained the release and rehabilitation of over 175,000 bonded laborers. He is the chairman of "Bandhua Mukti Morcha" and also the Chairperson of the UN Trust fund against contemporary slavery. A former Education Minister of Haryana, he resigned his office only four months after his appointment to take up work with the bonded labor. He has organized mass movements against several social ills including the practice of Sati (widow-burning) and the oppression of women and Dalits in India. He has actively campaigned for communal harmony and human rights. Swamiji has been honoured with Anti-Slavery International Award in London in 1990, the Freedom and Human Rights Award in Berne in 1994, the Rajiv Gandhi Award for Communal Harmony and the Right Livelihood Award (the "alternative Nobel Prize") from Sweden in 2004.

In November Swamiji will be leading a mass campaign against female feticide in India. Donations to this campaign and other causes welcome.
