Chandalika, A Dance Drama

On July 30, 2005, the Gandhi Foundation of USA will present a classical Indian dance drama based on Rabindranath Tagore’s Chandalika, a moving story of liberation from the shackles of prejudice and discrimination which addresses the issue of social justice, one of the main mission objectives of the Atlanta-based Gandhi Foundation of USA. This presentation of Chandalika will be performed by acclaimed Kuchipudi dancer Sasikala Penuthamarthi and the Acadamey of Kuchipudi Dance of Atlanta.

This performance is the first fundraiser for the establishment of the Gandhi Center USA, to be located in the MLK Historic District, which will serve as the foundations base of operations and facility for programs and services. The Gandhi Foundation of USA is the only organization which emphasizes the impact of Mahatma Gandhi on the development of American society over the last half century and which links the work of Gandhi with that of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who considered Gandhi to be his social and political mentor.

The performance will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2005 in the Rialto Center at Georgia State University. Ticket prices range from $15 to $100. For further information please contact
