Atlanta Vedic Temple holds
a Fun & Learn camp for children
True to its tradition of all-round child development, AVT once
again played host to this year’s youth summer campers. The
children with ages 5 to 16 arrived on Friday afternoon dumped
their sleeping baggage plus personal belongings, gulped camp’s
first yummy snack and rushed into learning of Bollywood dance.
They appeared worn out by dinner-time, relaxed watching a movie
and learnt with dedication the night-time prayers plus basic
knowledge on Vedas and daily Vedic duties.

Next day, they woke up early, said morning prayers and performed
Yogasans and Pranayam. After breakfast they performed Hawan,
during which they imbibed further Vedic knowledge. They spent
rest of the day in mirth and merriment.
As part of creative activities, they made toys from papers,
painted, did work related to arts and craft. They learnt
dental-hygiene and the Art-of-living, musical beats on
instrument Tablaa, and watched a puppet show on Asthma
awareness. They were overawed by the dance-on-skate performance
by one-of-their own 14 year old (Aaditya) who was an ex-national
champion of India in year 2008.
The evening was more hilarious with fun-games like
water-balloons, tug-of-war, water-slides and cricket. The
excitement continued into the night when they gathered around a
camp fire for a talent show in which each one thrilled others
with jokes, mimicry and music. Reluctantly, they went to sleep
but not before reciting their regular night-time prayers.

On the third and final day, after their regular morning prayers
and Yogasans plus Pranayam, they posed for personal and group
souvenir photographs. After that they narrated to happy parents
all their experiences of the camp. They performed Hawan and
recited the Vedic summary including the daily duties of life. In
closing ceremony they listened to the parting advice from
temple’s Acharyaji to become good human beings whichever
professions they opt for in later life. Each one was recognized
for being a great congenial camper. After final delicious lunch,
they all left completely contented and with a strong desire to
come back again in yr. 2010.
