Many months ago, while watching a dance drama at a downtown
theatre, I noticed
how the movement of the dancers would freeze momentarily in a
pattern to express a
particular emotion.
The concept of yoga in Indian astrology has a similar
explanation: planetary
movement tends to “freeze” to form specific patterns in a
horoscope at the time of
birth. Such patterns, or the yogas, formed by the planets at the
instance of birth
determine many elations and depressions in a person’s life:
wealth, health, fortunes
and misfortunes, power, prestige, success and failures.
For example, a good number of wealth-producing (dhan yogas) must
be present in
the horoscope of a person in order for him/her to become
extremely wealthy in life, .
Absence of such yogas in a horoscope would not allow a person to
accumulate much
wealth- no matter how hard one try.
For someone aspiring to appear in Forbes; wealth-producing yogas
alone would
not be sufficient, very strong yogas pertaining to stroke of
luck and fortune would be
required. The luck-producing yogas create the necessary
situations for that person to
be in the right place (or right country) at the right time.
The study of yoga to interpret a horoscope is a very unique
characteristic of Indian
astrology (Jyotish).
Ravana, the demon-king of Lanka , knew the significance of
planetary yogas at the
time of birth of a child. When his son, Indrajit, was about to
be born, Ravana exercised
his super-natural powers to terrify all the planets to line up
in a certain pattern to form
an extremely rare yoga that would make about-to-be-born Indrajit
immortal and
invincible. However, the karmic Saturn managed to slip away –
resulting in the
cancellation of the yoga. Ravana retaliated by cutting off one
of the legs of Saturn.
This resulted (!) in Saturn to be responsible for forming yoga
in a horoscope indicating
loss or damage to the leg of a person.
There are hundreds of yogas mentioned in the astrology
textbooks, including the
yoga indicating the possibility of loosing a leg.
However, the most important relate to:
a) Wealth.
b) Power and Authority
c) Fame
d) Misfortunes
The dynamics of yoga can express in multiple ways: A
wealth-producing yoga can
stretch and allow a person to remain wealthy from cradle to
death. Another form of
yoga could be like a dormant seed of destiny - just waiting for
the right moment to
sprout and manifest. Many horoscopes have good yogas marred by
the intervention
of a planet due to karmic reasons. This can be fixed by applying
proper remedy.
