Madhavi Kasam receives the ‘Hind Rattan Award 2009’

“It was a complete surprise” says modest, self-effacing and soft
spoken Madhavi Kasam, a classical homeopathic practitioner in
Metro Atlanta, Georgia, of the prestigious Hind Rattan Award,
2009 bestowed upon her in New Delhi, on January 25 by the NRI
Welfare Society of India.
The NRI Welfare Society of India, formed about 20 years ago,
recognizes the economic and philanthropic achievements of the
Indian diaspora with its annual Awards. Surprise or not, Madhavi
Kasam truly deserves the Award, for her commendable, and
outstanding academic, professional and compassionate
humanitarian outreach services to the community at large.
In an excusive interview, Madhavi said that she was born and
raised in a middle class family in Ponnur, Andhra Pradesh,
India.She graduated from JSPS Homeopathic Medical College,
Hyderabad in 1994.While at school and at college, she won
several prizes in debates, essay competitions and sports and
actively participated in dancing,
conducting yoga classes for
students and raising funds through charitable projects. In 1994,
she married Nagesh, an IT Graduate, (an arranged marriage) in
Hyderabad. They became proud parents of daughters Apurva, born
in India in 1995 and Anuhya, born in the U.S.in 2001. Madhavi
briefly practiced homeopathy in Hyderabad and Delhi but when
Nagesh got an opportunity to work for California-based IT
Company, they moved to Bay Area, California in 1996. Madhavi
earned the highest qualification in homeopathy in the U.S.-she
got certified in Classical Homeopathy (CCH) from the Council for
Homeopathic Certification. Incidentally, she is the only member
of North American Society of Homeopaths, RSHom(NA)in the State
of Georgia. NASH is dedicated to promote, represent and serve in
the voice of all professional homeopaths in North America. She
also studied many healing techniques such as Yoga, meditation,
Reiki and hypnotism.
In year 2000, the Georgia –based company offered Nagesh an
opportunity to work in Atlanta, so the family moved here. “We
love the weather and people of Georgia,and are happy with the
move” Nagesh said.

Not only does Madhavi practice homeopathy full time but also
tries to promote it and increase its awareness and remove its
misconceptions among the public. She does this by participating
in Health Fairs, medical seminars and conferences. She was a
guest speaker at CAM conference on Cancer in West Palm Beach,
Florida. She also gave a talk at Philadelphia College of
Osteopathic Medicine. She plays an active role in promoting
homeopathy in Georgia State, during World Homeopathic Awareness
Week by giving talks, and participating in Health Fairs.
She also offers free consultations to people without Health
Insurance, during Health Fairs organized by SAI Health
Fairs;Telugu Association of Metro Atlanta, Johns Creek Hospital,
BAPS, Art of Living and CARE Organizations.
She is very appreciative of her husband and daughter’s
supportive role in all she is doing. They have organized several
fund raising events for Child Relief and You( CRY), in
Birmingham, Alabama; The family’s philanthropy extends to India
even. They have sponsored a school staff room, and other village
upliftment projects in Nagesh’s native village in Nalgonda Dt.,
Andhra Pradesh. They have sponsored residential education for
the past four years for two poor kids , and raised funds to help
Gujarat Earth-quake victims.Apurva and Anuhya also help poor
children with school supplies, homeless with food, etc.
Madhavi is a member on the International Committee at Shakerag
Elementary School, Atlanta. She teaches Indian Culture at the
school-Indian philosophy; customs; costumes; food; games; yoga;
meditation; etc.
At weekends when she is not indulging in her hobby of gardening,
she used to devote a few hours for ‘Balamandir (children’s
temple) in her subdivision, teaching yoga, meditation, Indian
history, various festivals, Indian languages like Hindi and
Telugu, and religious hymns with the help of 2 parents. Nagesh
and Madhavi conduct a free weekly yoga session at their home on
Sundays.
Madhavi also attends Girls Scouts gatherings where she teaches
the scouts about Indian arts, crafts and culture.
“Homeopathy works wonders for all kinds of problems from cold to
cancer. It is the miracle health care for many complicated and
challenging health problems. It cures the problem with out side
effects. Homeopathy works from the root. Homeopaths take care of
person suffering with problem rather than the disease.
Homeopathy helps people to heal them selves by assisting healing
mechanism they are born with. By this method people come out of
recurring health conditions and incurable problems. Homeopathy
has shown wonders in Eczema, Ear infections, Asthma, Allergies,
Migraines, PMS, Arthritis, Digestion issues, ADHD, Autism,
Hypertension, Diabetes, Hypothyroidism, Sleeplessness, Anxiety
and Depression. It is a very good option in mechanical injuries
and first aid also. It is the safe health care for babies also
as Homeopaths use very minute diluted doses sparingly, “ Madhavi
said and continued,
“Homeopathy and Indian heritage are two important things in my
life. Indian culture has taught me to live life to the fullest
extent in sharing, giving and loving. Homeopathy helps me to
help the needy as it is very economical.”
Madhavi and her family is truly a role model for the community;
a shining beacon of hope and love and a living testament of what
difference even a caring and giving family can make !
